Whether your orders ship from a bonded or non-bonded warehouse affects what you can edit or cancel yourself, and what needs to go through the Portless Support Team. This article provides guidance on how to check.
What bonded and non-bonded mean
Non-bonded warehouse: A standard fulfillment facility. Goods stored here are treated as regular inventory, with no special customs status.
Bonded warehouse: A facility operating under customs supervision. Goods held here are treated as not yet formally imported, which is what lets duties and taxes be deferred until an order actually ships to the end customer, instead of being paid upfront. Because these orders sit in a more customs-sensitive stage, they come with tighter rules around edits and cancellations.
Why this matters
Bonded orders may already be in a customs-sensitive stage of fulfillment, so we need to confirm with the fulfillment center before any edit or cancellation is made. If you need to modify an order that ships from a bonded warehouse, contact the Portless Support Team first. Non-bonded orders have more self-serve options. See Editing orders through the merchant admin portal for what applies to your situation.
Option 1: Check the fulfillment location in Shopify
Every order fulfilled by Portless shows a fulfillment location in your Shopify Admin. You can see the full list of your available Portless locations from the location switcher on the Orders page.
Not every bonded location has Bonded in its name, so match against the list below rather than searching for that word alone:
Location name in Shopify | Warehouse type |
Portless - China | Non-bonded |
Portless - China Bonded | Bonded |
Portless - KEC | Bonded |
Portless - Vietnam | Bonded |
Option 2: Check settings in the Merchant Admin Portal
Log in to your Merchant Admin Portal.
Go to Settings, then Locations.
You'll see each warehouse you ship from, along with whether it's marked Portless bonded or Portless non-bonded.
